Our Stuff IsHere!

At length, our items arrived. It took 2 1/2 hours for five movers to get all our junk up to the fourth floor where we live. Even our big couch, after much trepidation and removal of our heavy pre-war door, is home. Also, we got our washer/dryer and met a very nice neighbor named Victor who helped me lug it up. Right now our first load is running. Hopefully our neighbors don't get mad when it hits the spin cycle. Now that our stuff is here, we can upload some pics. Below are a few of Wahoo and one from my white coat ceremony last Friday when I became a Hippocrat, as well as a couple from Bren's new building and the view from her floor. Having all our stuff back has made me feel a bit guilty, considering how many millions would love the opportunity to live on an airmattress under a roof. Thanks be to God for all these provisions. New York already feels more like home now that we can sleep on our bed again. : ) Now for the pics. Enjoy!

Closer to Normal

Well, we've been in NYC nearly two weeks, but it still doesn't feel much like home. We're liking the city, but we still have to sit on an air mattress. First Choice Moving and Storage continues to prove their name is a lie. We were told last Friday that our stuff would be loaded the next day, only to get a call Monday telling us that loading up our stuff put the truck over its weight limit. That prompted me to hang up on the dispatch lady--I hope they don't pee on our stuff. Fortunately, we were told later on Monday that our stuff had just been loaded, so we should be happy about the surprise that it wasn't going to be another week until a truck came along. The time for happy has past. Oh well, we'll soon have our stuff and be looking on the last few weeks as a silly story of character building. We get cable installed Friday, so posts should occur a lot more frequently. And the best news, saved for last : D, is that we got a dog! His name is Wahoo, and he is a ten-week-old Boston Terrier. We're currently in the throes of crate training him, but our little guy is doing well. Pictures are soon to come, just as long as I can find a way to get some uploaded. That's it for now.

We've Arrived!

Well, we've been in NYC for nearly a week now, and it's been quite a trip. Our stuff still hasn't gotten here, and it doesn't sound like it will soon. We were met with temps in the high nineties and very high humidity. Fortunately, it has cooled off considerable, and we even got our first thunderstorm in the city! I loved it; it took me back to my OKC days, but Bren was a bit edgy after a few loud claps of thundere. We've also had our first house guest. Amy came out Saturday afternoon and flew out Tuesday. She was a huge help painting our new place. The plan had been to fly her out to help with unpacking, but since we have nothing to unpack, we saw the city instead. We saw our first show together on Broadway, Beauty and the Beast. Not bad. (It was fun seeing Bren and Amy watch the play and hear songs from their childhood--they sang them together for a couple days after.) Thanks, Amy for all your help. Now that Amy has left, and we're still here, it's really starting to sink in that we're going to be staying for some time. It will help when our stuff gets here, we won't be sleeping on an air mattress anymore, and we can check email from our place. However, this is slowly turning into home. I guess that's a good thing, although we miss all our friends and family in California and OKC desparately. : / Who will be the next to visit? Our place has room, and the weather can only get better. : D
