Amy's Engaged!

Last Saturday, Andy Curry ask Amy Alexander, my lil' sis, to marry him! Woo-hoo! Andy's a great guy, and I couldn't be happier for them. They plan to exchange vows 1/21/06 at BFC, so that's at least one trip to OKC for Bren and me. : D I've been putting off posting about this until I get some pics or something, but I haven't done too well procuring some, so here's a text-only notification. Yay!

more good news

today i officially accepted a job offer for a position in new york. i will be working for the parent of the company i work for right now, so it will be a pretty smooth transition. my new title is senior SEC compliance analyst...or something like that. i will spare you the details, since most of you reading this will fall asleep if i don't. it is a totally different position, though, so it will be a new chapter in my career. if the little manhattan geography i have learned serves me correctly, it is in the financial district--close to wall street and all of that. i am really looking forward to it.

i feel very blessed that this position opened up at the right time for me to take it. it is such a relief (for both of us) to know that we will be able to pay the monstrous rent and other such things. thanks to all of the friends and family who have been praying for me to find a job.

Farewell, Mid-City

Yesterday Brenda and I were sent off in teary-eyed fashion by our church family in the english congregation at the Church of the Nazarene in Mid-City. Thank you, Mid-City, for the way you have impacted our lives. We will never again find a church so emboldened to live truthfully to the Gospel of Christ. We'll be back to visit!

Our New Home!

After some tribulation, we have a new home in New York City. Here are some pics of our new place in Washington Heights.

The door opens into a long, skinny hallway. (Sorry this pic is a bit blurry.)

This will be the office, also known as Matt's lair o' learnin.

This will probably be the dining room for now, although we'll probably also use it as a guest room and (someday!) nursery.

Here's where Bren and I will stay.

And here's the living room, complete with our urban view. : )

And the kitchen, which connects nicely to the living room.

More kitchen action.

And a couple pics of our view for good measure.

You can see some of the George Washington bridge from
the living room. (It's the gray thing to the right of the buildings.)

We're not sure what our exact move-in date will be, but it's gonna be sooner than it feels. (Yay and boo, both, ya know?)

confession.

for nearly four years i have taken many opportunities to ridicule john wright for his glasses. one of my approaches is to tease his transitions lenses. well, in an instance of poetic justice, i completed an eye exam yesterday by placing an order for new glasses--complete with transitions lenses. i have nothing more to add.

comments added

the old template wasn't recognizing the comments section of the posts. this new one is a little borign, but it will do for now.

welcome back kanes!

last night bren and i saw jeff and erin for the first time since they got hitched. it was good to see them again and reminisce about the good ol' days of their wedding two weeks ago. it sounds like they had a wonderful (and sometimes adventurous) time chillin in the yucatan on their honeymoon. friberg was there, and we were later joined by jenn and kelly whilst we played a game about movies that asks you to shout at a tv. much fun was had. for some reason, i don't seem to be able to quickly remembere a lot about movies that i've seen several times. plus, there are a bunch lost in the never-got-to-see-because-i-grew-up-nazarene dimension. you fellow nazbos know what i mean. apparently the texas holdem attitude wasn't left in yuba, as matt and the boys went all in on the final question. when dirty let it ride this time, it was a bust. oh well.

for bosses...

note. if you're going to have a company holiday on a day most employees wouldn't expect it, it'd be good to make sure said employees are notified of said company holiday. otherwise, said employees will drive to said company ready to earn money from you , only to find said company closed in observance of said company holiday. not to fret though... said wish-he-didn't-wake-up-early-for-nuthin employee got to pack for move away from said boring company to big, expensive city. :P
